After more than 11 years of unforgettable winter adventures, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue our Winter Western Sun Hotel Tour. We were unable to operate any winter departures last season, and the tour will not be offered for the 2026–2027 winter season.
Since the pandemic, interest in affordable group travel for au pairs has declined significantly. With more au pairs choosing destination classes and other ways to travel, we can no longer attract the number of participants needed to make this hotel-based tour possible at an affordable price.
Our goal has always been to offer an amazing experience at a price au pairs can realistically afford. We do not want to dramatically increase the price or compromise what made the trip so special simply to keep it running.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us over the past 11 years and helped make the Winter Western Sun such an unforgettable adventure. We sincerely hope interest in affordable group travel will come full circle and allow us to bring this very special tour back someday.
For now, Au Pair Adventures will continue offering a full schedule of our summer camping tours from May through September.

Winter is a great time of year to travel without the crowds! Winter is the off season so we are able to take advantage of great hotel rates on this week long hotel/hostel tour. The main difference between our winter and summer tours is that we are not camping in the winter…too cold! If you want to see and do as much as you can in one week, visiting the most famous cities and National Parks, this tour is for you! Departures start in San Francisco or Los Angeles…it’s the same tour, just North vs South driving direction!

What is the difference between the two directions? Really not much…just where we stay on the last night of the tour. San Francisco vs Santa Monica, LA! All the other nights are the same. We have tour vans departing San Francisco or Los Angeles. Each van seats up to 14 travelers. Your tour guide’s job is to make the most out of each day for your group…and every group is different.
Sometimes that means sticking exactly to the itinerary, but sometimes our guides will alter the plan for the benefit of the group! We train our guides to be able to give the very best week possible to each unique group they are in charge of…which means there is no shortage of adventure on every single trip!
