Day 1:

8:00am Tour starts in the lobby of our San Francisco Hostel. After making introductions with your tour guide and fellow travelers, you will start your adventure with a sightseeing tour of the most famous highlights of San Francisco, including the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf. After lunch we head out of the city and down the California Coast to surfing town of Santa Cruz. After getting camp set up, we will go out on the town, see one of the most iconic surfing breaks in the world, and have dinner at an amazing local spot.

Day 2 :

Today we have a very short drive to get to the beautiful sea side town of Monterey. We get to spend  plenty of time here and there is no shortage of things to do. The most famous attraction is the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Your guide will talk to the group and make the best plan for today based on all the optional activities. Even if you don’t want to spend any money on extra activities today, Monterey is a beautiful place with beaches, tide pools, and abundant sea life (Sometimes we can see whales right from shore!). Your guide is there to help you make the most of today and will be able to explain in much greater detail all the different ways to enjoy this historic California town. This evening we make another short drive down the coast to Big Sur State Park and our camping spot.

Day 3:

We will start off this morning with a short hike in Big Sur State Park. This beautful park is also home to the famous Redwood trees…tallest living thing on planet earth! The rest of the day we travel down Hwy 1, the famous coastal highway that follows right along the Pacific Ocean. Photo stops, and viewpoints are around every corner, but of course we know the best ones, including the famous McWay Falls. This afternoon we will arrive at camp spot with enough time to watch the sun set into the Pacific Ocean near Pismo Beach California.

Day 4:

This morning we hit the road early and after a 2.5 hr drive we arrive in Los Angeles, City of Angels! This afternoon your guide will take you on a city tour that will include Hollywood walk of stars, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, Dolby Theater (home of the Academy awards), Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd and more. We will also visit Rodeo Drive to see the “Pretty Woman” hotel and Venice Beach (Muscle Beach) before arriving in famous Santa Monica.

Day 5:

Today is your free day to enjoy Los Angeles. There are many different ways to spend today. Many travelers choose to spend all day at the famous Universal Studios Hollywood. Other people will like to stay in Santa Monica where our hostel is. Here you can do a little shopping in the morning and then spend most the day at the beach where you can rent bikes, etc…all at your own pace.  And some people like to go back to Hollywood and Sunset Blvd. for more sight seeing. Your guide will be available in the morning to drive the people going to Universal Studios. Each group is so unique; we never know exactly what everyone will decide to do until usually the day before. The hard part is deciding how to spend your day! Tonight is also a great night to go out for a group dinner and experience the night life of Santa Monica.

Day 6 & 7:

First thing today we get up early to beat the famous LA traffic! The faster we get to San Diego the better because there is so much to see and do. Today we will visit Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, the first European settlement on the West Coast of the present-day United States. This afternoon we will explore San Diego including the Water Front, Down Town and Mission Beach. Tonight your guide will give you all the details on the many optional activities for your day tomorrow…because there is a lot! Two popular ones are Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. But as always, if you are not in the mood for spending money, there are other unique parts of San Diego your guide will take you to, and endless beaches for an afternoon picnic. Tonight also makes a great night to go down town and experience San Diego by night in the Gas Lamp Quarter. If your group does not want to go out on the town, there is a drive-in movie theater that we sometimes go to…APA tour van at the Drive-In Theater = Awesome Time!

Day 8:

Today we start our journey east towards Arizona. After a solid morning drive, we will cross the Colorado River and make our way to Lake Havasu. The whole afternoon today is chill time at the lake where we will set up camp right at the water’s edge. Today is your chance to catch a tan, and learn how to Stand Up Paddle Board! Usually, there are a few APA groups that will be camped here, so the evening will usually turn into a pretty fun party. Your guide will take the time tonight at camp to cover everything you need to know about The Grand Canyon so you will go to bed with a good idea of how you want to spend your time once you arrive at the Canyon tomorrow.

Day 9:

Leaving the Lake behind, we hit the road and start our journey to canyon country. We will make an early start to maximize our time, arriving at Grand Canyon National Park for lunch. Known as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, this amazing canyon will not disappoint. You will have the whole afternoon to explore the Canyon, visit the information plaza, or take a hike down into the Canyon itself. Tonight we will meet for sunset at a special point along the south rim of the canyon.

Day 10 & 11:

Making our way across the desert, today we will stop in the famous small town of Seligman, AZ, better known as “the birth place of route 66”. In the early afternoon, we arrive in Las Vegas and your guide will drive the strip so you can get familiar with Sin City. Las Vegas is the gambling capital of the world, but there’s plenty to do along the Strip besides losing your money at the blackjack table – there are all the famous shows, plus tons of free shows, shops, amusement rides, and an incredible number of Night Clubs. When you arrive in Las Vegas, your guide will drive the length of the entire strip telling you all about Vegas, and pointing out where all the must go spots are, all the helpful inside information!

Day 12:

Today we continue our journey West and make our way towards Death Valley National Park and the Mojave Desert. We spend the day surviving this extreme park where summer time temperatures can be over 120 degrees (49c)! We will see various parts of this National Park, including sand dunes, salt flats and Bad Water…the lowest place in the western hemisphere and the hottest place on Earth! Making our way across the desert, we arrive at our beautiful grassy camping spot in a grove of cotton wood trees on the East side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Tonight your guides have a very special spot not too far from camp to share with you, a natural warm spring!

Day 13:

We get an early start today and spend the majority of our time in Yosemite National Park. There are many amazing hiking trails, swimming spots along the Merced River, short easy hikes and long strenuous ones. There are even bikes for rent with over 12 miles of paved trails to ride. Your guide will help get you started on which ever activity suits you best. You will be treated to views of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls (tallest water fall in North America!), and El Cap, a 3,000 ft tall wall of granite! This day is yours to do as much as you can take on!

Day 14:

We get up early again today and make our way towards San Francisco. Arriving in the city in time for lunch, we will visit more iconic parts of the city we did not have enough time for on day 1! In the evening we make an optional Sunset sailing trip available which is a fantastic way to bring this tour to an end. After dinner, San Francisco has an amazing night life, with an endless variety of bars and clubs if your still in the mood to go out.

Day 15:

Today we have no activities planned. If you are flying out in the afternoon, the hostel can hold your luggage until you are ready for your airport transfer. Because San Francisco is such a fun city, (and easy to get around on foot), we recommend staying for a few days after your tour. You will Love it here! If you do have to fly home today, get an afternoon flight and our hostel will hold your luggage for free why you explore San Francisco for one last day. One really fun thing to do today after the trip is to take a Alcatraz tour. You must book your own ticket either in San Francisco, or online before you get there. It is a really fun activity to do with other members of your trip on this last day.
